St Ann's Church was opened on 8 December 1952. So sixty years on this thriving, enthusiastic and happy parish (all right, I know I'm biased, but others will bear me out) has just celebrated its diamond jubilee.
Past and present members and friends of this parish came together for the jubilee weekend for a special festive Mass at midday on Saturday 8 December, followed by a hot buffet meal together at St James' High School, and after each of the regular Sunday Masses (5.30 pm Saturday, 8.30 or 10.30 am on Sunday) there was a cake-cutting and refreshments, and a home-grown Concert on the Sunday evening. Nostalgic montages of photos are still displayed in the Parish Rooms. (There's a separate news item showing a whole gallery of photos of this great occasion.)
In preparation for the jubilee our church had already been redecorated, a new and much more appropriately-sized crucifix for the sanctuary has now been purchased as a gift from the parishioners to their church, various smaller alterations have been made to the sanctuary, and a new, better (and more reliable) organ has been acquired to support the excellent singing of our parish and choir.
Do please come along and thank God with us for the last sixty years of our parish - and ask his blessing on the next sixty!
