We are fortunate at St Ann's to have two resident organists, Michael Lochery and Win Morrissey. On Sundays Michael accompanies the singing at the 10.30 Mass, Win at the 8.30. At the 5.30 pm Saturday Mass there is a small band, with Pat O'Dell on flute and Joseph and Niamh Magee on oboe and violin respectively; when possible Joe Taylor joins them on guitar. If any other musicians would like to join the happy band you'd be most welcome! And if any young people would be interested but need some tuition on their chosen instrument, the parish Finance Committee would be happy to provide some funding for lessons.
We have a thriving and enthusiastic parish Choir, not to usurp the musical role of the Congregation (who mostly sing heartily and even tunefully!) but to add an extra element at times with descants and harmonies, to deal with the trickier bits of some new hymns, and - not least - to enhance the liturgy from time to time, especially on major feasts, with a short motet or anthem. For my part (Fr Chris) I'm a little bit biased, but I believe they make a lovely sound. There is a real need, however, for more members, especially but not exclusively men: our tenors/baritones would be very happy to welcome you, and the ladies would no doubt be thrilled! Why not offer your God-given voice in the worship of the Lord?
"He who sings well prays twice." (St Augustine)
CHOIR MEMBERS: We are being dragged kicking and screaming (or rather, kicking and singing enchantingly!) into the 21st century: there is now a password-protected page where audio files can be found, to make the learning of new music easier. You should have had the password emailed to you - if you haven't, ask me or one of the Choir. CLICK HERE
